Schneider Electric launches data centre in a box

Date: 1st March 2012

Schneider Electric has announced the launch of its ‘data centre in a box’ solution. The solution is intended to give customers a high standard data centre which can be installed and commissioned in just four weeks. The data centre is supplied preconfigured and pre-tested, and includes a full set of equipment, including racks, UPS, cooling solutions and Schneider
Electric Struxureware management software.

The data centre offers 99.999% availability, with a power usage effectiveness (PUE) better than 1.5, resulting in annual energy savings of 20 per cent over conventional piecemeal approaches, according to Schneider.

Keysource says: This type of data centre solution is suitable for a small number of different applications including temporary or short term requirements but tends not to be something which would form part of larger development.

Whilst there is clearly a market for containerised solutions, those looking for a longer term, strategic investment are unlikely to adopt such an approach. For these organisations, they will be more focused on higher levels of efficiency within a more conventional building envelope such as Keysource’s own modular data centre infrastructure solutions.
